Ben Whynot

Ben Whynot joined the Board of Directors of the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network in 2018. He has worked in the public policy field for ten years, including roles with the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and the University of Alberta’s government relations team. He is proud to be a member of the Alberta Public Service and has served with the ministries of Economic Development and Trade, Executive Council, Education, and Culture and Tourism, where he is currently the Strategic Issues Manager to the Deputy Minister.

Ben is also passionate about non-profit governance, particularly for organizations focused on social justice, equality and human rights. In addition to the Legal Network, he also serves on the boards of the REACH Edmonton Council on Safe Communities and the Edmonton Social Planning Council. He is a former director and Board Chair of the LGBTQ Pride Centre of Edmonton. Ben has delivered workshops on board governance as a volunteer instructor for the Alberta government’s Board Development Program and completed the Max Bell Foundation’s Public Policy Training Institute for non-profits engaged in shaping public policy.
