David Olson
Treasurer
David joined the Legal Network's board of directors in 2005.
As a lawyer in private practice with broad experience representing people living with HIV/AIDS, he has represented refugee claimants from across the world, as well as Canadians in landlord/tenant matters and other human rights-based issues.
After testing positive for HIV in 1991, David was forced to abandon his hopes of practising law and turn to social assistance in order to afford his medications. These challenges motivated him to volunteer with the AIDS Committee of Ottawa and join its board and finance committee.
Following his return to Toronto in 1994, he joined the AIDS Committee of Toronto and the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation, both as a service user and a volunteer. In 2002, David opened his law practice as a sole practitioner. He later practised at the firm of Jordan Battista LLP before going back out on his own in 2006. He became a member of HALCO, the HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic (Ontario) in 2002.
