Board of Directors

Ken Buchanan

Ken Buchanan joined the Legal Network's board of directors in 2011.

Ken is the Vice-chair of the Positive Living Society of BC (formerly BC Persons with AIDS Society), having served on its board since 2005. He is Chair of the Community Representation and Engagement Committee, Positive Living BC’s primary vehicle for affecting meaningful change in government policy and legislation. Ken has worked closely with the legal aspects of criminalization of HIV non-disclosure, serving as point-person in cases where Positive Living BC has received intervener status. Ken also sits on the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS Therapeutic Guidelines Committee and is a member of the Canadian Treatment Action Council.

HIV-positive since 2004 and co-infected with hepatitis C, Ken’s personal experiences have given him an in-depth comprehension of and compassion for the diverse challenges people living with HIV face on a daily basis, including the psychological, social and physical intersections related to HIV. Through his work, he seeks to enable people living with HIV to empower themselves through mutual support and collective action.
